These fine and scarce
copperplate engravings appeared in 'Recueil de Planches...' Published in
Paris, France & Liege, Belgium in 1785.

They are a truly fascinating
record of industrial and commercial processes towards the end of the 18th
century & the machinery and equipment used, in this case to make ladies'
necklaces. Some were made from bone, as is depicted by picture #1. Women
are shown weaving the string on which the highly finished ornaments were to be
strung.
