However this large collection of Reference Pages is being left on line, as we hope you will find them to informative and helpful. They provide details of many of the maps, books and engravings we had the pleasure of dealing in over so many years.

Some Background Information about the Maps and Prints

The maps and prints in this work are copperplate engravings. The original book is comprehensive in its research and includes a wide variety of information as can be seen in the extract below which is taken from the title page:-

"...Shewing,

I. The Situation, Boundaries, and Face of the respective countries.

II. The Number of Provinces and Chief Towns in each.

III. The Genius, Temper, and Habits of the several People.

IV. Their Religion, Government, and Forces by Sea and Land.

V. Their Trafick, Produce of their Soil, Animals and Minerals.

VI. An Abstract History of each Nation.

Brought down to the present TIME."

The images that have been chosen to express this are interesting, as is their layout. For example, the map of Madeira is coupled with a picture of the Dragon Tree and maps of places in the Orient also have images of Pagodas and/or Temples. These descriptive images are not set out as insets, but are given the same priority as the maps themselves.

Many of the views contain figures conducting their everyday business in the extreme foreground. Adding a little culture to the views themselves.

These maps and prints are simple and attractive to behold, partly due to the medium used and partly due to the style of the illustrator/engraver. See the list below to view scanned images of these items.
