Karl Baedeker was born
in Essen, Germany on 11/3/1801. He began publishing his now world famous
travel guides in Coblenz (Koblenz) in 1827. He died 10/4/1859. The business
was continued through the generations by his family.
These Guides contained
general maps of each country along with Town & City plans.
The business of
publishing travel guides flourishes still.
