book opens with a letter from Rudyard Kipling, then residing in Rottingdean,
Sussex, England, dated 22nd November 1898, in which he says
'I've never read anything that equals it in its deep-sea wonder and
mystery....I congratulate you most heartily'.
Bullen was First Mate on the vessel & his narrative is both factually
interesting & although written in Victorian times, the style and content are
fascinating.
