SOME GIFT IDEAS FROM JULIE
FOR THE HARD TO BUY FOR,
perhaps a map or print of somewhere important in their lives. For example, where
they were born, got married, went on honeymoon etc.
A general search should find that, I do have a wide selection
of topographical views and historical maps.
America's,
UK,
Europe,
Asia,
Africa,
Australia,
The World, Etc.
Or do a search for their last name, you will be surprised
what you might discover.
This of course applies to anniversaries, graduations, births etc. For
example some friends of mine are soon to celebrate their Silver Wedding
Anniversary, so I am having the SILVER BIRCH FLOWER
FAIRY matted & framed for them.
Or for the little person in your life, the Cicely M. Barker Flower Fairy
Alphabet makes a wonderful keepsake if you buy the letters to spell their name.
For instance, the letters below spell M A R
Y !

Some Background Information about the Illustrator and the Prints
THOMAS ALLOM (1804-1872) was a Topographical Illustrator and Architect. He was born in London, England and in 1819 he was apprenticed to the architect Francis Goodwin. Allom was a founder member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). He produced designs for buildings in London and carried them out himself as well as working with the architect Sir Charles Barry on numerous projects. He produced many illustrations for publications of the topographical nature in the mid 1800s including: Devonshire and Cornwall Illustrated; The Shores and Islands of The Mediterranean Drawn From Nature. - c.1840 and The Fashionable guide and Directory to the Public Places of Resort Illustrated with Views. Allom died at the age of 68 in Barnes, London, England.
The prints in this publication are of a very high standard. They effectively depict the culture of the Chinese people in the mid 19th century as well as picturesque views of the countryside, towns and villages. The various cultural images portray festivals, sacrifices, various merchants and silk and tea processes etc. They also show the way of life of the Mandarin's and their court juxtaposed with the general population. These prints would prove to be interesting to those who are fascinated with oriental life as well as those who enjoy foreign scenery, religious practices and architecture.
