Some Background Information about the Maps and the Publisher
The maps in this work are small, concise and attractive. They are beautifully coloured to illustrate the Parliamentary divisions according to the redistribution bill in 1885.
They were reduced from the Ordinance Survey, therefore, they are accurate and show the principal roads, Railways, Canals and other natural features of interest.
GEORGE PHILIP (born - 1799) was a Globe-maker as well as a geographical publisher. He commenced his business in Liverpool in 1834 and was later joined by his son to become George Philip & Son, in 1848. He moved to London in 1856.
Other publications by Philip: New General Atlas - 1856; Imperial Atlas - 1864; Atlas Counties of England - 1865; Select Atlas - 1870.
