1716 - MORDEN - WORLD TWIN HEMISPHERE - This attractive miniture map is in Original Color. It is shown approximately actual size. CALIFORNIA APPEARS AS AN ISLAND.
1717 - MOLL - NORTH AMERICA - Hermann Moll's map of North America depicts CALIFORNIA AS AN ISLAND, totally seperate from the mainland. Engraved area some 10x7 inches.

1719 - CHIQUET - NORTH AMERICA - This attractive map in original outline colour, shows CALIFORNIA AS AN ISLAND. Overall size some 11.5x9 inches.
1739 - BUFFON - AMERICAS - ' L'Amerique suivant les dernieres observations.. ' This small map, some 5.5x7 inches, by this French Cartographer, is of interest as it too shows CALIFORNIA AS AN ISLAND.
1744 -SENEX - NORTH AMERICA - This small map, some 10x8 inches, is of particular interest, as is shows CALIFORNIA AS AN ISLAND.
[1752] DE L'ISLE - NORTH PACIFIC - This cartographic curiosity, revolves around a mythical French Admiral - de Fonte. The map purports to reflect the discoveries of Spanish, English and Russian explorers. In particular a large MER DE L'OUEST (Western Sea) is shown as existing just above California. Indeed for a generation or more, some French Maps still insist that this 'Sea' existed.
1762 - ROLLOS/VAUGONDY - NORTH AMERICA - The engraved area is some 11.5x7.5 inches. The area above California is shown as 'Parts Unkown'.
[1764] - BRION - NORTH AMERICA - Overall size some 20x14 inches. These maps are distinguished by the very decorative 'frame-effect' borders.
[1782] - CONDOR.T. - NORTH AMERICA - Cartouche only. Engraved area c.13x14.5 inches (335x375 mm)
1783 - KITCHIN - 'A NEW MAP OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE IN NTH. AMERICA'. Eastern Seaboard from Newfoundland to Florida - Tip of Florida inset. Nice Cartouche. Overall 20x14 inches. (Engraved area 370x335 mm). Inland to Lake Superior / New Orleans.

1795 - ADAM - AMERICAS - Note the inaccuracies in this map in the area of Hudson's Bay and Greenland. Some 9x8 inches overall size.
1797 - BROOKES - NORTH AMERICA - Engraved area some 9x7.5 inches.
1801 - GUTHRIE - US EASTERN SEABOARD - ' The United States of America according to the Treaty of Peace of 1784 '. An interesting copperplate map showing the States then established, Indian Tribes, Company Lands and West Florida extending to New Orleans. The engraved area some 8x7 inches.
1823 - ARROWSMITH -MEXICO - includes the area California/Texas/New Orleans - A New General Atlas. Published Edinburgh and London 1823 by A Constable & Co. The maps engraved by Sydney HALL.
1832 - ARROWSMITH - UNITED STATES - This map has original (contemporary) hand colouring. Several territories are shown. 7x6 inches.

1845/55 - LEVASSEUR - NORTH AMERICA - This famous French Cartographer produced his highly decorative maps between c.1845 and 1855. All have finely engraved Borders and were normally ussued with Original Outline Colour. On this example, TEXAS APPEARS AS A REPUBLIC.
1851 - TALLIS - NORTH AMERICA - John Tallis's ILLUSTRATED ATLAS published in 1851 contained perhaps the most decorative maps of the world issued in the 19th Century. Original Oultine Colouring. Overall size some 11x 14 inches.
1853 - FINDLAY -NORTH AMERICA - 8x10 inches. Attractive original hand colouring. This map appeared in A Compartive Atlas of Ancient and Modern Geography by Alexander FINDLAY F.R.G.S. It was printed by William Tegg and Co, 85 Queen Street London in 1853.
1862 - JOHNSON - PLAN OF WASHINGTON - The overall size is some 18x14 inches. Enhanced with delicately engraved lattice border and attractive vignette views.
1875 - MITCHELL - TEXAS - The engraved area is some 21x14 inches. Original Colour. A plan of Galveston is inset.
[1880's] - BLACKIE - PACIFIC STATES - A colour printed map. Approx. 10x13 inches.
1887 - RAND McNALLY - FLORIDA - This map is typical of the many colour printed State maps issued by Rand McNally. It details the individual counties. Overall size some 12x9 inches.
1891 - FARWELL - CHICAGO CITY PLAN - This was printed in 1891 by F.V. Farwell & Co in Chicago, which is why we have selected this example from the numerous other State & City plans in their 'New Popular Family Atlas of the World'. The Atlas contained Maps of the World, Continents and Countries, together with extensive text and engraved views. The overall size of the plan is some 11x13 inches.
1896 -BRADLEY-GARRETSON - PLAN OF BOSTON - This colour printed plan has a considerable amount of detail, street and place names, etc. The overall size is some 11.5x14 inches.
