An really interesting Guide Book containing numerous small in
text engravings, with scenes in and around the city.
The larger & more interesting of these have been scanned and can be viewed by

The Overall size is some 5.5 x 7.75 inches. You will note is was sold at the time for 40 Cents!
The book begins with 'A Glance at its History', revealing that
Boston was called 'SHAWMUTT' by the Indians.
The colonists of 1630 called it Trimountaine. A Public School was voted for by
the Town in 1635, 3 years
before the founding of Harvard, which nevertheless was to have a profound
influence on the city.
The 143 page Guide is crammed with fascinating historical details &
information about the City.
We are informed that there is a folding map inserted inside the
back cover, regretfully missing from the copy we have reviewed.
