These maps and town plans are interesting to look at. As well as providing accurate geographical information, they also depict part of the area in a small vignette located in one of the corners. The plans themselves are executed with care and attention, and are clear and precise, they show, where appropriate, the heraldry and seals of the area depicted.

The plans of Liverpool and Manchester are particularly interesting because of the comparisons that are made with plans of the cities at earlier dates (1720 & 1650 respectively). These effectively illustrate the expansion of these two cities and would be interesting to compare with plans of them today.

SYDNEY HALL (fl. 1817-1860) - Engraver and publisher. Engraved for Arrowsmith in 1817. His work can also be found in the following: Leake's Egypt -1818; A New General Atlas - 1830; New British Atlas - 1833 (re-issued 1834 and 1836); A Travelling County Atlas - 1842 (re-issued 1843-85 - numerous); New County Atlas - 1847; and Atlas Australia - 1853;
