Laurie & Whittle, Robert & James

Robert Laurie and James Whittle, trading as Laurie and Whittle between 1794-1812, were prolific publishers of sea charts and maritime atlases, as well as general atlases and maps. Their output included revisions of maps by Sayer, Après de Mannevillette, Kitchin and others. They took over Robert Sayer's stock in 1794, and worked in partnership until Robert Laurie retired in 1812, his place in the partnership being taken by his son Richard Holmes Laurie, after which date the firm traded as Whittle and Laurie. The business survives today as part of the nautical publishers Imray, Laurie, Norie & Wilson
