Thomas Shepherd's father, George (c.1782-c.1830), was an architectural draughtsman. Thomas himself was employed by Frederick Crace to make a large series of drawings of London. These were done with great precision and a good deal of flair. Most of the engravings are enhanced by figures, carriages or boats, which add life to the views.
