Some Background Information about the Maps and the Cartographers

The maps in this publication are simple in execution, they do not possess the decorative qualities that other French maps from the mid 19th century (eg: Levasseur). However these maps are clear and precise and they contain interesting ancient maps of various countries in Europe and the Empires of the Romans and Alexander the Great. They are of great interest on an educational level as the title suggests.

A. R. FRÉMIN was a publisher as well as a geographer in France. He was a student of Poirson who was connected to the Dépot Gén. de la Guerre.

Publications: Etats Unis - 1820; Atlas de la France - 1844; Corrected Hérrison's Oceanie - 1854; Carte Physique st routière de la France - 1859-78 and Mappemonde - 1868.

CHARLES V. MONIN was a geographer in Paris and Caen, France.

Publications: Petit Atlas National - 1835; Atlas Classique - 1844-5; France - [1868] and Mappemonde - 1875.
