PROVENANCE |
METROPOLITAN IMPROVEMENTS and/or
LONDON IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY
By James Elmes. The
illustrations by T. Shepherd.
Thomas Hosmer Shepherd
(Flourished c.1817-1842). His father, George
(c.1782-c.1830), was an architectural draughtsman. Thomas himself was
employed by Frederick Crace to make a large series of drawings of London.
These were done with great precision and a good deal of flair. Most of the
engravings are enhanced by figures, carriages or boats, which add life to
the views. Shepherd's works include :- London and its Environs in the 19th
Century. Modern Athens Displayed, or Edinburgh in the 19th
Century. Bath and Bristol. London Interiors.
A collection of
his work can be found at the British Museum. |
