From Wikipedia: Galloway (Scottish Gaelic: Gall-Ghaidhealaibh, pronounced Gallobha, Lowland Scots Galloway, meaning "Land of the Foreign Gaels) is an area in south western Scotland. It usually refers to the former counties of Wigtownshire (or historically West Galloway) and Kirkcudbrightshire (or historically East Galloway). It is part of the Dumfries and Galloway council area of Scotland.

MODERN ATHENS!
displayed in a series of views or Edinburgh in the 19th century exhibiting the whole of the new buildings, modern improvements, antiquities, and picturesque scenery of the Scottish metropolis and its environs from original drawings by Mr Thomas H Shepard with historical, topographical and critical illustrations. Published in London by Jones & Co.    Wikipedia:- Thomas Hosmer Shepherd (1792 1864) was a watercolor artist well known for his architectural works. Brother of topographical artist George "Sidney" Shepherd, Thomas was employed to illustrate architecture in London, and later Edinburgh, Bath and Bristol. His paintings were the basis for steel engravings in many books (see bibliography). Shepherd's work, mostly topographical, is characterized by an attention to detail, along with life-like scenes that contained people, carriages and horses. His first acclaim came with Metropolitan improvements, a publication of modern London architecture commissioned by Jones & Co. He worked mostly for Frederick Crace, who employed him to paint old London buildings prior to their demolition, with much of the work surviving in the Crace collection at the British Museum
