PROVENANCE: James Sowerby Galium Witheringii (1810) James Sowerby ( 21 March 1757 25 October 1822), was born in Lambeth, London. He worked for William Curtis, whose Botanical Magazine was to become one of the most famous works of the late 18th and early 19th century. In 1790 he himself began work on his English Botany , which was to become a 36 volume treatise depicting over 2500 hand coloured plants and flowers. He had 3 sons, who were to continue his immense work. ANTIQUE PRINT
