A scarce map of the United States, published by Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co. This is the first edition of the map, which predates the Gadsden Purchase of 1853-54. The map shows some of the most unusual US territorial configurations. Oregon Territory runs from the Pacific Ocean to the Rocky Mountains and north to the 49th parallel, a year prior to its division in 1853 which created Washington Territory within its northern part. New Mexico and Utah Territories appear shortly after their organisation as territories in 1850. A strange notch incorporates Middle Park in Colorado into Utah. "Missouri or Northwest Territory" - organised as Nebraska territory in 1854 - extends to Canada and the Rocky Mountains. The area marked as "Indian Territory" includes both the areas organised and named as Kansas Territory & Indian Territory (today Oklahoma) in 1854. Minnesota Territory (organised in 1849) extends from the Missouri River to the Mississippi and Lake Superior. Early trails and routes west are shown through the Great Plains, Texas and Rocky Mountains, including the roads from Ft. Smith to Dona Ana & Sante Fe made by order of General Arbuckle, Kearny's route, Fremont's route, and the Oregon Trail. Lewis & Clark's route is noted. Many Indian tribes and early western forts. Large inset of the gold region four years after the discovery of gold in California. Cities marked on the map shortly after their incorporation include Sacramento (1848) and Salt Lake City (1847).

Packing

Items smaller than A4 size are usually packed in a stiffened, board-backed envelope. Larger items are rolled and packed in postal tubes. Large items which are too stiff to be rolled in wide-diameter tubes are mailed in all-board envelopes. In the unlikely event of damage in transit, please send the affected item or items back to us and we will provide a replacement or refund.

Returns

We accept returns for any reason if sent back to us within 14 days of receipt of your order.
