Numbered street plans identify 142 places associated with New York writers—principally homes, but also the Algonquin, San Remo Café, Cedar Street Tavern and offices of The New Yorker and Vanity Fair. A densely printed index links each site to authors and their works, from Edith Wharton, Willa Cather and F. Scott Fitzgerald to Langston Hughes, Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs and Joseph Heller. Portraits along the hotel entrance include Dorothy Parker, Norman Mailer, Dylan Thomas and James Baldwin. Illustrated by Linda Ayriss and researched by Brian Ladner, it is one of Aaron Blake’s most visually inventive 1980s literary maps.
