At the time, cold storage and market distribution were prominent beside the railway, represented by Union Cold Storage and by the London Central Markets, with its fruit and vegetable market and cold store. The General Market is now empty and is being converted for London Museum, which is due to open from November 2026. The plan still labels the station Farringdon \u0026amp; High Holborn, a name that was dropped in 1936, and it marks the Metropolitan Railway, which opened here in 1863. The station's expansion for the Elizabeth line, which opened in 2022, put the emphasis on carrying passengers across London, and Cowcross Street has been rebuilt and pedestrianised. Goad's plans were compiled so that insurers could rate property and fire risk, and they were maintained with pasted overlays noting changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in January 1962, with a 1962 copyright date, and it carries a latest dated correction of September 1969. Key plans acquired with the group were still being corrected in October 1970 and March 1971. The sheet shows Booth's distillery and the Tanqueray Gordon \u0026amp; Co. bonded warehouse, revealing what was then a centre of spirits production and storage beside the Metropolitan Railway. The distillery has gone, and its Turnmill Street offices came down in 1971, although the decorated façade was re-erected at 24 Britton Street in 1974–7. A former Booth's warehouse on the Clerkenwell Road corner, still shown here as bonded warehousing, later became the Turnmills nightclub. The Chemical Brothers were residents during its Heavenly years, and they and Fatboy Slim returned on 22 March 2008 during its closing weekend. The club closed in 2008 and the warehouse was replaced by offices. The Farringdon Street and High Holborn Station approaches shown on the sheet served the 1863 terminus of the world's first underground railway, which has been an Elizabeth line interchange since May 2022. St John's Public Gardens also appears on the sheet. The plans were drawn up for fire-risk assessment, and they carry pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. The last dated correction on this sheet is March 1970. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in July 1942, with a 1950 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with it carry corrections as late as October 1970 and March 1971.
