The store closed in 1982, and after housing Tower Records, Virgin Megastore, Zavvi and The Sting in turn, the building is to be refurbished by the Crown Estate as 10 Piccadilly. The sheet also shows the Regent Palace Hotel, Europe's largest hotel in 1915, filling a whole block, with its kitchens and service accommodation identified beside the public rooms. The hotel closed in 2006 and became Quadrant 3 in 2011 after substantial demolition and rebuilding, with offices, shops, homes and restaurants, retained façades and restored and reinstated historic interiors. The Piccadilly Hotel of 1908 trades on as The Dilly, Wren's St James's Church still keeps its Southwood Garden of 1946, and the Scotch House is also named. Goad's plans were made for fire-risk assessment, and they were updated by pasted slips recording changed occupancy, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. The latest dated correction, October 1970, is an alteration note on the police station between Swallow Street and Regent Street, which has since been demolished. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in October 1950, with a 1950 copyright date, and the Volume IX key plan, acquired with the same group, records corrections to October 1970. Carnaby Street was a shabby rag-trade backstreet until John Stephen's boutiques made it Swinging London's showpiece, and it was pedestrianised in October 1973. The basement club marked at 9 Kingly Street is the Bag O'Nails site, where the Jimi Hendrix Experience played two shows on 11 January 1967. The club was still hosting bands in 1970; a much later revival as a private members' club ran from 2013 to 2018. The Bag O'Nails was also where Paul McCartney met his future wife, the photographer Linda Eastman, in 1967. No. 3 Savile Row, marked “Offices”, was the Beatles’ Apple Corps headquarters and the setting for their final public performance, the rooftop concert of 30 January 1969. Apple Corps plans to open a Beatles visitor attraction there in 2027. Nearby, 23 Heddon Street provided the setting for David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust album cover photograph in 1972. On the sheet, woollen warehouses around Golden Square and John Heathcoat's net and silk premises near Savile Row show the working textile district that then lay behind Regent Street's fashionable shopfronts. Today those streets are known for shopping and dining. The New Gallery Evangelistic Centre, then a church in a former Regent Street cinema, has been Burberry's flagship since 2012. The sheet also names the Church of the Assumption on Warwick Street, Mappin \u0026amp; Webb, and Miss Selfridge, whose shops closed in 2021. Goad's plans were made to assess property and fire risk, and they were corrected with pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. The latest dated correction is October 1970, and a separate pencil working note is dated November 1974. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in November 1948, with a 1950 copyright date, and the key plan acquired with this group records corrections to October 1970. The sheet shows hat and gown factories on Great Pulteney Street, a shirt factory and woollen warehouses around Golden Square. Clothes were then made and stocked here as well as sold, behind streets now better known for restaurants. Granada Group Ltd then occupied Nos 34–36 Golden Square, a wool merchants' block of 1914 that is now M\u0026amp;C Saatchi's, and Jaeger Ltd's showroom is also named. The Police Section House shown on Broadwick Street is Trenchard House of 1938–40. On Sherwood Street, the Regent Palace Hotel annexe served Europe's largest hotel of 1915, which closed in 2006 and was largely demolished for Quadrant 3. The annexe itself was converted into Quadrant 4 apartments in 2017, retaining its street façades. Goad's plans were drawn to assess property and fire risk, and they were updated with pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. The latest dated correction, October 1970, marks a vacancy at the corner of Lexington Street and Brewer Street. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in November 1948, with a 1948 copyright date, and the key plan acquired with this group records corrections to October 1970. The film laboratories and studios, cutting rooms and photo-engraving premises it records make the work behind the entertainment industry tangible. Wardour Street was the centre of the British film trade through the twentieth century, but by the century's end the big companies had gone, leaving independent post-production houses. The sheet also explicitly names the Marquee Club at 90 Wardour Street, its home from 1964 to 1988. The Who began their Tuesday residency on 24 November 1964, Pink Floyd played the Spontaneous Underground from 13 March 1966, and Led Zeppelin appeared on 18 October 1968 while still billed as the Yardbirds; Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie also played here. The club was operating when the sheet was last corrected, and its site later became Soho Lofts. At 59 Old Compton Street, the club-and-restaurant label marks the 2i's Coffee Bar, where Tommy Steele, Cliff Richard and musicians who became the Shadows helped launch British rock 'n' roll. It operated from 1956 to 1970, closing in the year of the final revision. The Wardour Garage car park beside Richmond Buildings, operated by Parking Managements Ltd in the sheet's day, became the Soho Hotel of 2004, which has its restaurant entrance on Flaxman Court. In this way a service site was given over to visitor accommodation. The sheet also names the Eros Hotel, the Swiss Hotel and the Police Offices, while Berwick Street's market, founded in 1778, still fills the street. Goad's plans were drawn to assess property and fire risk, and they were kept current with pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. On this sheet a vacancy annotation carries the latest date, October 1970. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in November 1958, with a 1958 copyright date, and the key plan acquired with this group records corrections to October 1970.
