When the sheet was in use, H. & M. Rayne's shoe factory, which held royal warrants and was sold to Debenhams in 1975, stood alongside the C. A. Coutts cardboard-box factory, the Ebonite Container Company works and the Continental Ice Cream factory. Beside the Eastern Region railway, the Harrison Barber horse slaughterers and the J. L. Henson tripe dressers still upheld Belle Isle's reputation for noxious trades. On Tileyard Road, tile kilns had come before the Ebonite works, whose landmark water tower came down in 1983, and since 2011 the estate has been Tileyard, today a hub of recording studios and music businesses. Insurers weighed up fire risk from plans like this one, which were kept current with slips recording changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building; the latest dated correction on this sheet is October 1969. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in June 1951, with a 1951 copyright date, and key plans for other London areas from the same group carry corrections as late as October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Brewery Road, Brandon Road, Vale Royal and Blundell Street.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001132a_c4547c89-c118-4ea7-9909-8accddbf9148.jpg?v=1792149049
goad-london-d48-n7-islington-caledonian-road-cattle-market-1951-1969-old-map-p-9-001133
Goad London D48—N7—Islington—Caledonian Road—Cattle Market 1951 (1969) old map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet D48 [Islington: Brewery Road, Blundell Street and Caledonian Road]

Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet D48, covers Brewery Road and Caledonian Road (N7), then an Islington of small works still changing trades. At the time, Woburn photographic studios, S. R. Littlejohn engineering works, the Richardson-Merrell chemical warehouse, Arc-Art Metal Craft works and British Insulated Callender's Construction stores filled Brewery Road, Blundell Street and St George's Yard. A chemical sundries warehouse, computer system engineers and theatrical scenery workshops were there too. Robert Blair Primary School is still open on Brewery Road, and St Matthias Church of 1868 became a chapel of ease to St Andrew, Thornhill Square, in 1956. Market Road Gardens, which has been in council hands since 1900, now carries a column of cut-out cattle recalling the Metropolitan Cattle Market. Fire risk was priced from plans such as this, which were kept current by overlays recording changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. The latest dated corrections are from October 1969. Garage and repair premises south of Brewery Road, in block D107, are marked 'Vacant over Oct '69', and the frontage at No. 7 Brewery Road is marked 'Vacant Oct '69'.
