Walker Parker & Co.'s lead works stood here, with its shot tower of 1826. The tower was worked until 1949 and was the only building kept for the Festival of Britain in 1951, but it came down in 1962 to make way for the Queen Elizabeth Hall, which opened in 1967. Beside Waterloo Bridge stood J. S. Gabriel's dock and contractor's yard, King's Arms Wharf, Darfield Wharf, Grellier's Wharf and Canterbury Wharf. The sheet shows Howley Street, Howley Terrace, Tenison Street, Tenison Way, Commercial Road and Sutton Walk between Belvedere Road, Waterloo Road and York Road. The Royal Festival Hall, which opened in 1951, and the later arts development took the place of this industrial riverside. Outline editions give footprints and plot divisions with less occupancy and risk detail than the coloured plans. Both kinds of plan were used to assess property and fire risk, and both were kept current with pasted overlays recording changes of use, altered layouts, demolition and new building. Undated revisions are pasted onto this sheet. The printed base heading is dated June 1889, and the key plan acquired with the same group records corrections to March 1971.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001215a_ae4e1c8c-880d-4ab6-abc6-f30986e7356b.jpg?v=1792149262
