The headquarters building of 1894–95 served the Post Office until 1984 and is now Nomura House, with financial offices rebuilt within the historic exterior. Postman's Park takes its name from the postmen who rested there, and it holds Watts's Memorial to Heroic Self-Sacrifice of 1900. On the sheet, the site of Christ Church Greyfriars with St Leonard Foster marks Wren's church, which was gutted in December 1940 and has been a public garden since 1989. By contrast, St Botolph without Aldersgate, rebuilt in 1788–91, remains in use. Goad's plans were made to assess property and fire risk, and they were kept current with pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. The latest dated correction on this sheet is a basement vacancy at 5 Little Britain, dated September 1969. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in April 1958, with a 1958 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with it carry corrections as late as October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Little Britain, Aldersgate Street, King Edward Street, Angel Street, Newgate Street, Roman Bath Street and Cross Key Square.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001105a_ac027be7-8084-4ec9-9478-9df6a4025f4c.jpg?v=1792148992
goad-london-43-ec1-smithfield-st-bartholomew-s-hosp-cloth-fair-1950-1969-map-p-9-001107
Goad London 43—EC1—Smithfield—St Bartholomew's Hosp—Cloth Fair 1950 (1969) map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 43 [St Bartholomew-the-Great, St Bartholomew's Hospital, Cloth Fair and Bartholomew Close]

Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 43, covers St Bartholomew's and Little Britain (EC1), where Rahere's hospital and priory church of 1123 still stand. The sheet shows the St Bartholomew's Hospital in-patients department, nurses' home and swimming pool, which then made the district strongly institutional. The hospital saw off closure in the 1990s and was rebuilt by 2016. In Arthur Conan Doyle’s A Study in Scarlet (1887), Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson first meet in a laboratory at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. St Bartholomew the Great staged the final wedding in Four Weddings and a Funeral, while 41–42 Cloth Fair, which date from about 1614, are the City's only houses to survive the Great Fire. The headquarters of the insurers' London Salvage Corps, built on Aldersgate Street in 1960, was demolished after the corps disbanded in 1984. Former hospital buildings around Little Britain and Bartholomew Close are now Barts Square, completed in 2020, with homes, offices, shops and restaurants. Goad's plans were compiled to rate property and fire risk, and they were kept current with pasted slips recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding.
