It reopened in 1953 after being gutted in wartime. The Merchant Navy War Memorial names 36,000 seafarers. Tower Hill Underground Station moved to its present site in February 1967, and the Sir John Cass Nautical College joined the City of London Polytechnic in 1970. America Square, The Crescent and Circus Street were then remnants of George Dance the Younger's scheme of 1768–74 beside the Fenchurch Street railway approaches. The bombed Circus was later cleared for road widening, though two Crescent houses survive. The sheet also names Wakefield Gardens and Midland Bank. Goad's plans were made for fire-risk assessment and kept current with pasted overlays recording new tenants, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. The latest dated correction on this sheet is a vacancy note by America Square, dated November 1967. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in September 1951, with a 1951 copyright date, and key plans acquired with the group were corrected as late as October 1970 and March 1971. The station of 1841 still keeps its 1854 frontage, but it lost its train shed to office blocks built over the platforms in the 1980s. Lloyd's Register remains in Collcutt's building of 1901, which Richard Rogers extended in 2000. The sheet's latest dated correction, from August 1969, is an alteration note on the offices of Lloyd's Register. The sheet also shows the Institute of Marine Engineers in its Memorial Building of 1957 in Mark Lane, commemorating marine engineers lost in the Second World War. The institute left in 1999 and is now IMarEST, based in Westminster. Furness House, Africa House, Lloyd's Avenue and Midland Bank are also named, as is Aldgate Pump, which is still standing. The plans were compiled to assess property and fire risk, and they were kept current with pasted overlays recording changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. Resurveyed and reissued in September 1949, with a 1949 copyright date, the sheet belongs to a group whose key plans were still being corrected in October 1970 and March 1971. The sheet names the Sir John Cass Technical Institute, which became Sir John Cass College in 1950 and merged into the City of London Polytechnic in 1970. Its successor, London Metropolitan University, dropped Cass's name from its art school in 2020 over his links to the slave trade. On Jewry Street the sheet shows the Metropolitan Bonded Vaults, with bottling rooms and substantial storage of wines and spirits. These were then working premises for handling goods, the physical trade that lay behind the offices and institutions of this eastern edge of the City. Aldgate Pump and a London Electricity Board distributing station are also named. The plans were made to assess property and fire risk, and they were kept current with pasted slips recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. The latest dated correction, from August 1969, is an upper-floor vacancy note on Carlisle Avenue. The sheet was reissued in August 1937, with a 1949 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with it carry corrections as late as October 1970 and March 1971.
