Waterlow & Sons' Finsbury works is shown with its paper storage, type casting and printing. It belonged to banknote printers bought by Purnell in 1961, and that side of the business passed to De La Rue. At the time, Metcalfe & Cooper printers, S. Oppenheimer & Sons, W. H. Smith & Son's warehouse, Paul Street Garage and the Territorial Army Centre stood among printers and engravers. Those printers and engravers were publishing's manufacturing side, which came before today's media, technology and creative trades. Appold Street and Wilson Street now edge Broadgate, built over Broad Street station, which closed in 1986. Kept for insurers rating property and fire risk, the sheet carries pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. They include vacancy notes of June 1966 and June 1968, a June 1968 construction note in block 1286, and March 1970 vacancies, which are the latest dated correction. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in June 1946, with a 1950 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with it carry corrections as late as October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Luke Street, Scrutton Street, Clifton Street, Phipp Street, Holywell Row, Worship Square, Dysart Street, Curtain Road and Finsbury Market.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001150a_509a6166-939d-427c-a75b-ef833b7d489a.jpg?v=1792149094
goad-london-151-ec2-finsbury-market-clifton-wilson-streets-1958-1970-map-p-9-001158
Goad London 151—EC2—Finsbury Market—Clifton & Wilson Streets 1958 (1970) map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 151 [Finsbury: Clifton Street, Wilson Street, Appold Street and Finsbury Market]

Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 151, covers Finsbury Market, Appold Street and Clifton Street (EC2), then a railway-side quarter beside the Broad Street approaches. Here scientific instruments, lithographic printing and saddlery sat among railway arches and electricity works. Waterlow & Sons' lithographic printing works belonged to the security printers whose banknote business went to De La Rue in 1961. A. Gallenkamp & Co's scientific-instrument warehouse and Technico House belonged to the laboratory firm that Fisons bought in 1977. The sheet also names Eldonian Ltd's saddle factory, together with the Central Electricity Generating Board and London Electricity Board premises. The Broad Street Station approaches and railway arches lost their trains when the terminus closed in 1986, and Broadgate brought a far larger office economy to that railway land. The sheet was amended for fire-risk assessment with pasted overlays recording new uses and rebuilding, and its latest dated corrections are March 1970 vacancy annotations. Resurveyed and reissued in May 1958, with a 1958 copyright date, the sheet belongs to a group whose key plans were still being corrected in October 1970 and March 1971.
