Four bilingual English–Arabic maps move between scales: a 1:12,500 plan centred on the Masjid al-Haram; a remarkably close 1:4,500 plan of the Holy Mosque precinct; a 1:30,000 survey extending through Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat; and an enlarged plan of Mina and Al-Azizyah. Coloured relief makes Makkah’s mountainous setting vivid, while extensive keys record the infrastructure of pilgrimage—Holy Area boundaries, existing and projected roads, pedestrian routes and tunnels, camps, car parks, mosques, hospitals, police and fire stations, schools and hotels.
