The plan shows the full layout of the exhibition buildings within the Royal Horticultural Society’s Gardens at South Kensington, with national sections, product types and "retiring rooms" clearly labelled. Such plans were both practical guides for visitors and enduring records of one of Britain’s most important Victorian exhibitions. The clarity and density of information make this an especially engaging example of mid-19th-century exhibition cartography. Plans of this type are increasingly sought after for their combination of historical significance and graphic interest. The site is now occupied by the Natural History Museum. The Exhibition was a world's fair held from May to November 1862; it attracted 6 million visitors.

'The Temple of the "Entente Cordiale": The Wonderful Franco-British Exhibition at Shepherd's Bush—Bird's Eye View of the Exhibition, opened on May 14.'

A bird's eye view of the area now known as White City. It was open farmland until 1908, when it was transformed to host the Franco-British Exhibition and the 1908 London Olympic Games. The vast exhibition complex—soon dubbed the Great White City—took its name from the fibrous plaster façades of its pavilions, whose brilliant white surfaces evoked classical marble. The site was reused almost continuously for major international exhibitions until the outbreak of the First World War. At its centre stood White City Stadium, purpose-built for the Olympics and among the largest sporting venues in the world at the time; it later witnessed the 5000-metre world record in 1954 and the mile world record in 1957, before being demolished in 1985. Little of the grand exhibition landscape survives today, aside from the line of Wood Lane and the former Metropolitan Railway (now the Hammersmith & City and Circle lines). The southern portion of the view is now occupied by the former BBC Television Centre, while the viewpoint lies roughly above today’s Westfield London.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-8-006532a_178bcf01-0931-4e14-b662-dbbd7017f724.jpg?v=1770322478
aintree-the-grand-national-steeplechase-at-liverpool-bird-s-eye-view-1908-map-p-8-006533
Aintree—The Grand National Steeplechase at Liverpool—Bird's Eye View 1908 map

'The Mecca of Adventurous Riders: The Scene of the Grand National Steeplechase at Liverpool, March 27—Bird's Eye View by Melton Prior'

Bird’s-Eye View for the 1908 Grand National Steeplechase at Liverpool , by Melton Prior, published to illustrate the world’s most famous steeplechase at Aintree Racecourse. The panoramic view traces the entire course, clearly delineating the racing line, fences, and surrounding landmarks, and providing spectators with a comprehensive visual guide to the contest. The composition is framed by a series of vignette views depicting the most celebrated obstacles, including Beecher’s Brook, the Water Jump, and Valentine’s Brook, emphasising the hazards faced by horse and rider. Combining cartographic clarity with dramatic reportage, the print captures the scale, danger, and spectacle of the Grand National.
