Under the headline 'There are 140,000 Turks in Cyprus', magenta patches pick out the scattered 'cantons' the community had lived in since, in the paper's words, 'the Greek attack of 1963', from Paphos to the Karpas. The largest, the Lefkoşe–Boğaz enclave, ran from the capital to St Hilarion castle above Kyrenia, then in Turkish Cypriot hands. Persuasion as much as reporting, it laid an island-wide Turkish presence before readers as Ankara decided to act; within eighteen months the invasion and the 1975 population exchange had emptied the southern enclaves.
