Reproduced from the Ordnance Survey and printed locally by Stephen Austin \u0026amp; Sons, it distinguishes the hotel and its long rear yard as Lot 1 in green and No. 11 Fore Street as Lot 2 in red. The surrounding town centre is unusually well documented, including Fore Street, Market Place, Castle Street, Maidenhead Street, Shire Hall, Corn Exchange, public market, banks, post office, cattle market and the route to the Great Eastern Railway station. The former inn survives at 80 Fore Street as Grade II-listed Dimsdale House. Historic England records that it was formerly the Duncombe Arms and was renamed for the Dimsdale family, whose Thomas Dimsdale became celebrated for smallpox inoculation. Extending south from historic properties on Castle Street, between Pegs Lane and Queen’s Road, to Highfield Road, it records houses, gardens, outbuildings, boundaries, tree-lined roads and undeveloped fields on an Ordnance Survey base: a vivid document of Hertford’s interwar expansion. Lot 7 includes 23 Castle Street, The Walnuts, a fifteenth-century hall house now listed Grade II*, together with its separately listed coach house and stables. A 2024 Hertfordshire Building Preservation Trust heritage report reproduced this exact sale plan and uses it to trace changes to the property and its outbuildings. Locally printed by Stephen Austin \u0026amp; Sons, the sheet combines architectural, landownership and town-planning interest.
