The sheet shows fur warehouses crowding Garlick Hill beside Union Cold Storage Co. Ltd, in a City that was still handling commodities. The Hudson's Bay Company's Beaver House closed its fur auctions in 1982, and Garlick Hill now also accommodates the Vintry & Mercer hotel of 2019, which sets a visitor economy beside the older trades that remain. Queenhithe Dock, the City's only surviving inlet, now lies silted up beside Vintners' Hall of 1671 and Wren's St James Garlickhythe Church. The plan was drawn for fire-risk assessment and kept current with pasted slips recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding, and its latest dated correction is a construction annotation of November 1970. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in November 1957, with a 1957 copyright date, and it belongs to a group whose key plans were still being corrected in October 1970 and March 1971. The sheet also names Mansion House Underground Station, the Southwark Bridge approach and a City fire-brigade station. Its other streets include Cannon Street, Bread Street, Queen Victoria Street, Great Trinity Lane, Little Trinity Lane, Great St Thomas Apostle, Skinners' Lane, Queen Street, Upper Thames Street, High Timber Street, Gardner's Lane, Bull Wharf Lane and Huggin Hill.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001173a_1e4f8523-b1f2-465d-8cb6-9831fea3a8da.jpg?v=1792149156
goad-london-6-ec4-cannon-st-station-college-hill-dowgate-hill-1957-1970-map-p-9-001174
Goad London 6—EC4—Cannon St Station—College Hill—Dowgate Hill 1957 (1970) map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 6 [Cannon Street Station, Upper Thames Street, Dowgate Hill and College Hill]

Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 6, covers Cannon Street Station and College Hill (EC4) and shows livery halls and a working wharf among the offices. The City public-cleansing depot and dock at Walbrook Wharf still barges refuse to the Belvedere incinerator, a river trade that survives. St Michael Paternoster Royal Church is Wren's church of 1694 and Whittington's burial place, and it housed the Mission to Seafarers from 1968 until 2022. Skinners', Dyers' and Innholders' Halls remain the homes of their companies. Cannon Street Station and railway bridge keep their twin towers, which were listed in 1972, under Cannon Place, the office block that was completed in 2011 to replace Poulson's. The Lloyds Bank computer centre on the sheet marks the changing uses of large City sites, and a fifteen-level riverside car park is shown under construction in November 1970, which is the latest dated correction. The plan was compiled to assess fire risk, and it was maintained with pasted slips as uses and buildings changed. It was resurveyed and reissued in November 1957, with a 1957 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with it carry corrections as late as October 1970 and March 1971. St Mary-le-Bow was burnt out in May 1941 and rebuilt to Wren's design in 1956–64, with its bells rehung in 1961, while Wren's Gothic St Mary Aldermary now holds a café. On the sheet, fur and woollen premises at Watling Court and tea-blending in Watling House show that commodity trades were still handling goods among the banks and insurance offices. Among them were the Yorkshire Bank, since rebranded Virgin Money, and the National Mutual Life Assurance offices in Bow Churchyard. National Mutual Life Assurance was Keynes's old society, and it was sold to GE Capital in 2002. Bow Bells House was rebuilt in 2007, and the sheet also names Cheyne House and Aldermary House. The plan was drawn for fire-risk assessment and kept current with pasted overlays recording changes of use, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. Its latest dated corrections, of November 1970, are vacancy notes around Watling Street, Bow Lane and Well Court. In 2017 the temple returned close to its original site beneath Bloomberg's European headquarters, the successor to Bucklersbury House, where it now offers public access to the City's archaeology. This later copy supersedes the "obsolete" edition of November 1935, on which the dense Budge Row and Sise Lane plots lie under Bucklersbury House construction notices of November 1955. The Mappin & Webb silversmiths' corner fell in 1994 to make way for No 1 Poultry. The sheet also names the Legal & General Assurance offices, the Bank of London & South America at Bolsa House, the Bank of New Zealand, National Safe Deposit, Barclays Bank and Scottish Union House. On these fire-risk working plans, pasted slips record changes of use, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. This copy preserves the close-packed plots of Budge Row, Sise Lane and Tower Royal that Bucklersbury House swept away. Its final overlays, dated November 1955, record the clearance for Bucklersbury House and the Bank of London & South America under construction. The cleared building site on the sheet is where the Temple of Mithras was found in September 1954. The replacement edition of November 1956 maps the consolidated offices and, later, the reconstructed temple, which is now back on its original site beneath Bloomberg's European headquarters. The National Safe Deposit and the Bank of New Zealand shared the 1873 building on Queen Victoria Street that is now the City of London Magistrates' Court. The sheet also names Mappin & Webb silversmiths, Simpson's Restaurant and Barclays Bank. The Mappin & Webb building was demolished in 1994 to make way for No 1 Poultry. The plan was compiled for fire-risk assessment and updated with pasted slips recording changes of use, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. This sheet was reissued in November 1935, with a 1949 copyright date. Its latest dated correction is November 1955, and the replacement edition's 1956 reissue places the end of its regular updating at about 1956.
