Printing and engineering premises then stood beside the institute, placing industry and technical education side by side. The London College of Printing and Graphic Arts moved to its new Elephant and Castle premises in 1962, with the formal opening following in 1964. It was renamed the London College of Communication in 2004, and it now plans to move across the road in 2027. The sheet also names the London Transport Executive tramway sheds, the Garden Row tenements, St George's Market and Prospect House. The plan was drawn up to assess fire risk and kept current with pasted overlays recording new uses, demolition and rebuilding. The printed base heading is dated June 1889, with a 1950 copyright date. The latest dated correction, a vacancy note at 58 St George's Road, is from March 1971, matching the key plan acquired with the group. Other streets on the sheet include Lambeth Road, St George's Road, London Road, Southwark Bridge Road, Kell Street, Keyworth Street, Rotary Street, Thomas Doyle Street, Conquest Street, Ontario Street, Garden Row, Brook Drive, Pastor Street and Oswin Street.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001262a_b9c25767-e681-45d1-b9a4-93763d2938dd.jpg?v=1792149387
goad-london-276b-se1-southwark-college-of-printing-borough-road-1889-1971-map-p-9-001263
Goad London 276B—SE1—Southwark—College of Printing—Borough Road 1889 (1971) map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 276B [Southwark: Borough Road, London Road, St George's Road and the London College of Printing]

Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 276B, covers Borough Road and Keyworth Street (SE1), where the Elephant then built printing presses as well as teaching the trade. The Crabtree Vickers printing-press works shown here bore a name that existed only from 1966, when Vickers formed the company after buying the Leeds press-makers R. W. Crabtree. Nearby stood the London College of Printing and Graphic Arts, which is now the London College of Communication and is planning a move across the road in 2027. The National College for Heating, Ventilating, Refrigeration and Fan Engineering, which merged with the Borough Polytechnic in 1970, also stood close by. Perronet House, the GLC tower completed in May 1970, is drawn with its ground-floor shops still proposed, next to the March 1971 vacancies on London Road. Goad compiled these plans for fire underwriters and revised them with pasted slips for changes of use, demolition and new building. The printed base heading is dated June 1889, with a 1950 copyright date. The latest dated correction identified is March 1971, matching the key plan acquired with the group.
