Compiled British Admiralty surveys and French surveys under the direction of General Kleber made \"for the information of [Napoleon] Buonaparte\". Palestine, Egypt, Sinai and adjoining parts of Syria and Arabia are extensively detailed and enhanced with original hand colour. The cartography is surrounded by an elaborate ornamental border and enriched by a large vignette of Christ and the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s Well, inset plans of Jerusalem and the Temple, and views of Cairo and the Pyramids. Engraved on steel by Josiah Neele and issued in this decorative form around 1835, the map was intended to support scriptural geography.
