In the Moorgate Station redevelopment, offices and railway were being remade together, and the sheet shows new buildings over the railway platforms under construction in November 1970, which is its latest dated correction. Britannic House on Ropemaker Street, BP's 35-storey tower of 1967, became CityPoint in 2000 after BP left in 1991. St Alphage House, a London Wall slab of 1962, was demolished from 2013 to make way for London Wall Place. Milton Court, shown here as the City public services building and fire station, came down in 2008 for the Guildhall School's performance and teaching building of 2013, with music and drama replacing municipal services. The sheet also names the National Telephone Exchange and the Stock Exchange offices. Goad's plans were made to assess property and fire risk, and they were kept current with pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. This sheet was resurveyed and reissued in November 1939, with a 1939 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with it carry corrections as late as October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Moorfields, Silk Street, Milton Street, Fore Street and Fore Street Avenue.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001192a_f3c5c254-4626-4d74-865f-716908931270.jpg?v=1792149202
goad-london-24-ec1-ec2-barbican-whitbread-brewery-chiswell-st-1939-1970-map-p-9-001193
Goad London 24—EC1/EC2—Barbican—Whitbread Brewery—Chiswell St 1939 (1970) map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 24 [Chiswell Street, Whitecross Street, Whitbread's Brewery and Northampton College (City University)]

Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 24, covers Chiswell Street, Whitecross Street and the Barbican (EC1 and EC2), with Whitbread's brewery at its heart. The sheet shows porter and tun rooms, stores, brewery yards and a brewery fire brigade station, recording brewing on the site that Samuel Whitbread took in 1750. Beer production ended in 1976, and the listed buildings now host events as The Brewery, with rooms built for beer turned over to entertainment and hospitality. Beside the brewery, the sheet marks the Cromwell Tower footprint and cleared Barbican plots of the high-rise estate then emerging. The tower was finished in 1973, and the estate was listed in 2001. The sheet also names the buildings of City University (Northampton College of Advanced Technology), and Whitecross Street's market still trades at lunchtime. The plan was drawn for insurers weighing property and fire risk, and it carries pasted slips noting changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. Its latest dated correction, from November 1970, marks part of Whitbread's tun rooms as disused. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in November 1939, with a 1939 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with the group were corrected as late as October 1970 and March 1971.
