The square of 1777 lost its Georgian houses to commercial blocks, among them City Gate House of 1930 by Giles Gilbert Scott and the London \u0026amp; Manchester Assurance offices. That insurer passed to Friends Provident in November 1998 and is now part of Aviva. The sheet also names Dominion Buildings, commercial offices and basement car parks. It was drawn for fire-risk assessment and amended with pasted overlays recording new uses and rebuilding. Its latest dated corrections, from March 1970, include a vacancy note at 33 Wilson Street, while upper floors at 39 Wilson Street, in block 2872, were marked vacant in June 1968. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in August 1950, with a 1950 copyright date, and key plans acquired with the group were corrected as late as October 1970 and March 1971. Gallenkamp \u0026amp; Co's scientific-instrument warehouse and Technico House belonged to the laboratory firm that Fisons bought in 1977. The sheet also names Eldonian Ltd's saddle factory, together with the Central Electricity Generating Board and London Electricity Board premises. The Broad Street Station approaches and railway arches lost their trains when the terminus closed in 1986, and Broadgate brought a far larger office economy to that railway land. The sheet was amended for fire-risk assessment with pasted overlays recording new uses and rebuilding, and its latest dated corrections are March 1970 vacancy annotations. Resurveyed and reissued in May 1958, with a 1958 copyright date, the sheet belongs to a group whose key plans were still being corrected in October 1970 and March 1971.
