Waterlow \u0026amp; Sons' Finsbury works is shown with its paper storage, type casting and printing. It belonged to banknote printers bought by Purnell in 1961, and that side of the business passed to De La Rue. At the time, Metcalfe \u0026amp; Cooper printers, S. Oppenheimer \u0026amp; Sons, W. H. Smith \u0026amp; Son's warehouse, Paul Street Garage and the Territorial Army Centre stood among printers and engravers. Those printers and engravers were publishing's manufacturing side, which came before today's media, technology and creative trades. Appold Street and Wilson Street now edge Broadgate, built over Broad Street station, which closed in 1986. Kept for insurers rating property and fire risk, the sheet carries pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. They include vacancy notes of June 1966 and June 1968, a June 1968 construction note in block 1286, and March 1970 vacancies, which are the latest dated correction. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in June 1946, with a 1950 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with it carry corrections as late as October 1970 and March 1971.
