It maps central and north-west Glasgow from St Vincent Street and Sauchiehall Street to West Princes Street and the Kelvin, with an enlarged inset of Queens Terrace. Symbols identify the home of victim Marion Gilchrist, Slater’s lodging, the Sloper and Motor Clubs, Johnston’s billiard rooms and Kelvinbridge Subway Station; measured routes and yardages reconstruct movements discussed at trial. Gilchrist was murdered at 15 Queens Terrace in December 1908. Slater was convicted in 1909 on deeply flawed identification evidence, reprieved from execution and imprisoned until 1927; Arthur Conan Doyle’s campaign helped expose the miscarriage of justice. Drawn by Glasgow architect R. W. Horn from evidence produced in court.

'Plan of Flat Dwelling or House No. 15 Queens Terrace, West Princes St., Glasgow, Occupied by the Late Miss Marion Gilchrist'

A chilling architectural plan of 15 Queens Terrace, Glasgow, the home and murder scene of Marion Gilchrist in December 1908. The sheet reconstructs the entire first-floor flat—kitchen, parlour, bedrooms, drawing and dining rooms, pantry, hall and stair landing—together with a vertical section through the common stair leading from street and basement level. Furniture and evidence are selectively plotted in the dining room, including a table, chair and book. Published with William Roughead’s Trial of Oscar Slater from drawings produced in court, it is a rare original visual record of one of Britain’s most notorious miscarriages of justice.
