It shows the Trinity Church Square terraces and the Merrick Square gardens, both of which are still owned by Trinity House. Trinity Church Square's King Alfred statue was found in 2021 to be a Roman figure of about AD 80–130 below the waist. In Lant Street the boy Dickens lodged in 1824 while his father was in the Marshalsea. Among the back ways the sheet shows are Avon Place, Hulme Place and Swan Yard. Reissued in December 1943, this outline records streets, footprints and plot divisions with less occupancy and risk detail than the coloured plans. It preserves smaller commercial plots that later coloured revisions show replaced by the consolidated South Eastern District Post Office site, tenements and playground space. Goad's working plans existed to price property and fire risk, and pasted overlays kept them current with changes of use, altered layouts, demolition and new building. A key plan for this area acquired with the group records corrections to March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Trinity Street, Globe Street, Cole Street, Swan Street, Tabard Street, Long Lane and Great Suffolk Street.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001243a_f7122c3a-2450-4235-b3fb-eba501aaf700.jpg?v=1792149334
goad-london-253-se1-borough-high-st-newington-causeway-holy-trinity-ch-1943-map-p-9-001244
Goad London 253—SE1—Borough High St—Newington Causeway—Holy Trinity Ch 1943 map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 253 [Borough High Street, Newington Causeway, Trinity Church Square and Rockingham Street — uncoloured outline]

Goad's uncoloured outline fire insurance plan of London, sheet 253, covers Borough from Borough High Street and Newington Causeway to Rockingham Street and Trinity Church Square (SE1), whose listed terraces remain Trinity House property. Holy Trinity Church, Francis Bedford's building of 1823–24, was disused when the London Symphony and London Philharmonic Orchestras chose it in 1970. It reopened in 1975 as the Henry Wood Hall for orchestral rehearsal and recording, and so it joins the square's religious past to a musical present. Reissued in December 1943, this outline records streets, footprints and plot divisions with less occupancy and risk detail than the coloured plans. It preserves the small plots around Rockingham Street and Falmouth Road, which later coloured revisions show replaced by larger housing blocks, with tenements under construction in March 1971. These working plans were drawn to price property and fire risk, and they took pasted overlays recording new uses, layouts, demolition and rebuilding. A key plan for this area acquired with the group records corrections to March 1971.
