The track of Chaumont’s 1685–86 French embassy to Siam is shown. The sheet also includes the phantom Islands of St Brendan and Sao Pedro, the former placed mid-ocean between the Azores and Cape Verde—an imagined landfall rooted in supposed medieval sightings and shown on some European maps well into the seventeenth century despite repeated unsuccessful attempts to locate it.
