On the sheet the plot to the gallery's west stands empty, a gap left by the destruction of Hampton's furniture store in the Blitz, and that wing opened on the site in 1991. The Leicester Square Theatre, later the Odeon West End, came down in 2015 to make way for The Londoner hotel, and the Dental Hospital closed in 1985 and is now the Hampshire hotel. The Haymarket Theatre still plays, and the Central Reference Library shown on St Martin's Street, which stands on the site of Isaac Newton's house, is still a library. The Royal Trafalgar Hotel and the Garrick Hotel are also named. Goad's plans were made to assess property and fire risk, and they were kept current by pasted slips recording changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. The latest dated correction, October 1970, is a vacancy note at 12 Orange Street. The sheet was reissued in September 1938, with a 1950 copyright date, and the Volume IX key plan, acquired with the same group, records corrections to October 1970. Other streets on the sheet include Panton Street, Whitcomb Street, Irving Street, Suffolk Street, Pall Mall East, Cockspur Street, Charing Cross Road and Oxendon Street.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001079a_c8da74ea-db5f-47a6-81d6-be16e2b6badb.jpg?v=1792148970
goad-london-215-w1-wc2-soho-leicester-sq-chinatown-gerrard-st-1954-1970-map-p-9-001083
Goad London 215—W1/WC2—Soho—Leicester Sq—Chinatown—Gerrard St 1954 (1970) map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 215 [Leicester Square, Wardour Street, Gerrard Street (Chinatown) and the Empire Theatre]

Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 215, covers Leicester Square and Chinatown (W1 and WC2), where Gerrard Street was already the heart of a Chinese community by 1970. The street was pedestrianised and given Chinese gates in the late 1980s. The Swiss Centre on the corner of Leicester Square and Wardour Street, a post-war landmark of 1966, was added to the sheet by correction. It was demolished in 2008 for the W London hotel development, which opened in 2011. The Empire Theatre, a cinema since 1928, and the Prince of Wales Theatre of 1937 both survive, and the Telephone Exchange is also named. At 33–37 Wardour Street, the basement club label marks the former Flamingo, whose celebrated 1957–67 period included Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames and the Jimi Hendrix Experience on 4 February 1967. By the final revision it had passed into other club identities, although basement club use remained on the map. When the square was remodelled in 2012, the Shakespeare Fountain of 1874 alone was kept. Goad's plans were drawn to assess property and fire risk, and they were corrected with pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. Vacancy annotations among these overlays are dated October 1970, which is the latest date on the sheet. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in October 1954, with a 1954 copyright date, and the key plan acquired with this group records corrections to October 1970.
