It was the Tour of Louison Bobet’s third successive victory, of the first British team to ride the race, whose Brian Robinson and Tony Hoar became the first Britons to finish, and of Jean Malléjac’s collapse on Mont Ventoux, marked on the Marseille to Avignon stage. It runs through Roubaix into Belgium, down to Metz and Colmar, into Switzerland at Zurich, over the Alps to Briançon and Monaco and across the Pyrenees by the Peyresourde, Aspin, Tourmalet and Aubisque. A panel lists all twenty-two stages with the results left blank, and advertisements for Motocycles et Scooters and the children’s weekly Jocko complete the picture.
