Here the sheet shows the Times and Observer premises with casting, machine and paper-storage spaces, alongside printing works, newspaper premises and the Associated Newspapers garage. The presses have gone, with The Times leaving for Gray's Inn Road and, in 1986, for Wapping. Apothecaries' Hall on Blackfriars Lane, which dates from 1672 and is the City's oldest livery hall, still houses the Society of Apothecaries. The Mermaid Theatre at Puddle Dock, Bernard Miles's playhouse of 1959, is now a conference venue, and Blackfriars Station, beside the Blackfriars Bridge approach, was rebuilt by 2012 with platforms spanning the river. The sheet was drawn to assess fire risk and kept current with pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. It carries vacancy annotations dated November 1970, which are its latest dated correction. It was resurveyed and reissued in November 1941, with a 1949 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with the group were corrected as late as October 1970 and March 1971. These were the Thames-side warehouse plots south of the Faraday Buildings, and the City of London School took part of that ground in 1986, bringing education to where warehouses and wharves had stood. Faraday Building then held the GPO Telephone Department headquarters and the GPO International Telephone Exchange. When it was completed in 1933, it hid St Paul's from the River Thames, and it prompted the height controls that still guard the cathedral. The College of Arms, home of the heralds since 1555, still works beside Wren's St Benet's, which has been the City's Welsh church since 1879. The plan was made for fire-risk assessment and revised with pasted slips showing new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. Its latest dated correction, of November 1970, marks a vacancy at 21 Godliman Street. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in November 1941, with a 1941 copyright date, and it belongs to a group whose key plans were still being corrected in October 1970 and March 1971. The Financial Times printing works and offices on the sheet are Bracken House, which was listed in 1987. The presses stopped in 1988, and the FT returned to the building in 2019. St Nicholas Cole Abbey Church, restored in 1962, still stands, while the Salvation Army International Headquarters, rebuilt in 1963 and again in 2004, remains on its site. On the River Thames the sheet names Sunlight Wharf and Brooks and Brook's Wharf, and the warehouse at Brook's Wharf is now the Globe View apartments. The plan was made to assess fire risk, and it was kept current with pasted slips as buildings changed. Its replacement, reissued in November 1959, maps Old Change Court, Spillers and Old Change House in place of denser merchant and warehouse plots, together with a reconfigured Salvation Army headquarters and wider riverside clearance. This copy was reissued in November 1928, with a 1949 copyright date. Its latest dated correction is December 1958, and regular updating ended with the 1959 replacement. Here the sheet shows Bracken House, the Financial Times printing works, with newspaper offices stacked over machine rooms and paper storage. In 1987 it became one of England's first post-war listed buildings, and in 1988 it lost its presses. When the FT returned in 2019, it came back to printing floors that had been turned into offices, so journalism survived where the presses did not. On this sheet, Old Change Court, Spillers and Old Change House are shown consolidating former merchant plots, with St Nicholas Cole Abbey Church standing more openly. The Salvation Army Headquarters and the River Thames frontage at Sunlight Wharf are also shown reconfigured. The plan was made to gauge fire risk and kept current with pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. Its latest dated correction is a vacancy in block 54, dated November 1970. Its blocks gave way to the Paternoster Square of 2003, with the London Stock Exchange, offices, shops and restaurants, and this was a second rebuilding in the cathedral's setting. Car parks north of the cathedral and a bank-and-office development beside Cheapside are shown under construction in December 1969, so the sheet holds the redevelopment at an intermediate stage. The Central Electricity Generating Board offices, meanwhile, belonged to an earlier Paternoster Square, which was rebuilt again and reopened in 2003 with the London Stock Exchange among its offices and shops.
