The City public-cleansing depot and dock at Walbrook Wharf still barges refuse to the Belvedere incinerator, a river trade that survives. St Michael Paternoster Royal Church is Wren's church of 1694 and Whittington's burial place, and it housed the Mission to Seafarers from 1968 until 2022. Skinners', Dyers' and Innholders' Halls remain the homes of their companies. Cannon Street Station and railway bridge keep their twin towers, which were listed in 1972, under Cannon Place, the office block that was completed in 2011 to replace Poulson's. The Lloyds Bank computer centre on the sheet marks the changing uses of large City sites, and a fifteen-level riverside car park is shown under construction in November 1970, which is the latest dated correction. The plan was compiled to assess fire risk, and it was maintained with pasted slips as uses and buildings changed. It was resurveyed and reissued in November 1957, with a 1957 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with it carry corrections as late as October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Cloak Lane, Queen Street, College Street, Skinners' Lane, Dowgate Hill, Upper Thames Street, Bell Wharf Lane, Bush Lane, Allhallows Lane and the Southwark Bridge approach.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001174a_726e54f7-45bc-4ad3-bea1-699b25769930.jpg?v=1792149160
goad-london-238-se1-south-bank-belvedere-road-york-road-1889-c1971-old-map-p-9-001214
Goad London 238—SE1—South Bank—Belvedere Road—York Road 1889 (c1971) old map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 238 [South Bank: Belvedere Road, York Road, Hungerford Bridge and the India Store Depot — uncoloured outline]

Goad's uncoloured outline fire insurance plan of London, sheet 238, covers the Waterloo riverside at Hungerford Bridge (SE1) and preserves the waterfront that postwar offices and open space replaced. At the time of the sheet, Providence Wharf, Sufferance Wharf, College Wharf, Bangor Wharf and Wellington Wharf lay along the River Thames. The same riverside held the India Store Depot, Eastwood & Co.'s lime stores, the Victoria Works and W. Younger & Co.'s ale stores in the South Eastern Railway arches. Between Belvedere Road and York Road ran Belvedere Crescent, Jenkins Street, College Street, Manners Street and Sutton Street. Bombed in the war and redeveloped for the Festival of Britain in 1951, the quarter is gone. College Street now lies beneath Jubilee Gardens, which opened in 1977, and the London Eye has stood beside the gardens since 2000. Later coloured revisions show the Shell complex and cleared plots instead. Outline editions give footprints and plot divisions with less occupancy and risk detail than the coloured plans. Both kinds of plan were used to judge property and fire risk, and both were kept current with pasted overlays recording changes of use, altered layouts, demolition and new building. Undated revisions are pasted onto this sheet. The printed base heading is dated June 1889, and the key plan acquired with the same group records corrections to March 1971.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001214a_3efc1484-75c2-44ba-85ea-57988b090f5c.jpg?v=1792149259
