At four inches to one statute mile, it extends from Hampstead Heath south to Clapham Common and from Notting Hill east to the Isle of Dogs. Streets, squares and public buildings are densely named, with parks and open spaces picked out in green, the Thames and docks in blue, and railway lines and termini prominently marked. First issued by Henry George Collins in the 1850s, the design was acquired and repeatedly updated by Stanford as London expanded. This late printing records the capital's rapidly developing railway network, docks and newly cut West End thoroughfares on the eve of the twentieth century.
