This mid-1980s poster map marks the vineyards of the Eola Hills as purple blocks on green slopes above the Willamette River, from Amity to West Salem, with bottle symbols for the wineries that offered regular tours. Bethel Heights, Seven Springs, Temperance Hill and Eola Hills Vineyards are here at the start of their reputations; Gentzkow Vineyard appears before it became Witness Tree, and Mirassou Cellars of Oregon holds the site that Cristom took over in 1992. Undated, Mirassou’s advertised tours favour a 1986 publication or shortly afterwards, following the winery’s opening to the public in 1986; the regional association had formed in 1985. Designed by J. Steven Hunt and carrying a regional grape-cluster emblem, it is both a decorative wine map and a snapshot of the appellation some twenty years before its official recognition as the Eola-Amity Hills AVA in 2006.
