France, 1934. One of the most important milestones in the history of gastronomy and Michelin collecting: the first Michelin map devoted exclusively to starred restaurants. Introduced in the 1934 Guide Michelin France, La Bonne Cuisine transformed the Michelin Guide from a practical motorists' handbook into a guide for gourmets, plotting every one-, two- and three-star establishment across France. Michelin itself regarded the innovation as pivotal, describing the 1934 map as completing the Guide's transition towards gastronomy. Issued as six map pages on four sheets (with two pairs printed back-to-back), the map is accompanied by Bibendum's printed letter announcing the extensive revision of the Guide's restaurant selections. Rarely, if ever, offered separately from the Guide, this is an exceptional survival and the earliest obtainable Michelin gastronomic map.
