The Company was chartered in 1537 and is the British Army's oldest regiment. Its headquarters, Armoury House of 1735, is drawn with the Albert Room, the drill hall of 1862 that was bombed by the IRA on 9 June 1990, and the Company remains there. The sheet also names the GPO Regional Training School, Peabody Buildings, Chequer School for Girls, St Joseph's RC School, Bunhill Row Recreation Ground and City University Northampton Hall. Northampton Hall, the university's first hall of residence, opened in 1964. St Joseph's school closed in 1977, though its church of 1901 continues. Bunhill Row itself now houses Slaughter and May and City's Bayes Business School. Printers and furriers around Dufferin Street, a plastics factory and warehouses for toys and spices show the earlier mixture of making and storing goods behind this frontage. Their presence gives a measure of the area's change towards the legal and educational employment now represented on Bunhill Row. The sheet was compiled for assessing property and fire risk, and it carries pasted amendments recording changes of use, new layouts, demolition and building, with March 1970 as the latest dated correction. Resurveyed and reissued in June 1960, with a 1960 copyright date, the sheet belongs to a group whose key plans were still being corrected in October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Chequer Street, Dufferin Avenue, Errol Street, Cahill Street and Roscoe Street.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001143a_0da3f3c2-be32-428e-87de-809038cffeb5.jpg?v=1792149076
goad-london-24-ec1-ec2-barbican-whitbread-brewery-chiswell-st-1939-1970-map-p-9-001193
Goad London 24—EC1/EC2—Barbican—Whitbread Brewery—Chiswell St 1939 (1970) map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 24 [Chiswell Street, Whitecross Street, Whitbread's Brewery and Northampton College (City University)]

Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 24, covers Chiswell Street, Whitecross Street and the Barbican (EC1 and EC2), with Whitbread's brewery at its heart. The sheet shows porter and tun rooms, stores, brewery yards and a brewery fire brigade station, recording brewing on the site that Samuel Whitbread took in 1750. Beer production ended in 1976, and the listed buildings now host events as The Brewery, with rooms built for beer turned over to entertainment and hospitality. Beside the brewery, the sheet marks the Cromwell Tower footprint and cleared Barbican plots of the high-rise estate then emerging. The tower was finished in 1973, and the estate was listed in 2001. The sheet also names the buildings of City University (Northampton College of Advanced Technology), and Whitecross Street's market still trades at lunchtime. The plan was drawn for insurers weighing property and fire risk, and it carries pasted slips noting changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. Its latest dated correction, from November 1970, marks part of Whitbread's tun rooms as disused. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in November 1939, with a 1939 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with the group were corrected as late as October 1970 and March 1971.
