Woodland, arable land, grassland, heath and moorland, orchards and gardens are distinguished across the Tamar valley, the South Hams fringe and the edge of Dartmoor, and broad zones are graded under the national scheme of land classification from good to poor land. A bold blue planning boundary shows how much of this countryside the city's plan embraced. Printed by Stanford's, it is a detailed and attractive agricultural map of south-west Devon and east Cornwall.

Kent planning map—roads, farmland quality & conservation areas—J.W.R. Land is graded from the Land Utilisation Survey's best farmland in green to the poorest in yellow, while green hatching marks proposed preservation areas, including much of the North Downs, later protected as the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Built-up areas, public land, railways and a network of existing and proposed major roads approved by the County Council in November 1945 complete the picture, from the London suburbs to Thanet and Dover. Drawn by James W. R. Adams, County Planning Officer, and dated 1946, it was published in Planning Basis for Kent (1948).
