Surveyed in 1770–71 and first published in 1772, it charts the engineered New Cut of the Dee, reclaimed marshland, numbered holdings, farms, sands and channels on both the Cheshire and Flintshire sides of the estuary. A magnificent allegorical cartouche combines shipping, industry, agriculture and river scenery, while statistical tables quantify lands recovered and enclosed; this later state incorporates additions through October 1837, documenting more than sixty years of continuing reclamation and company ownership. Large, scarce—there is only one recorded instituional holding of the map, in the National Library of Wales—and of major regional historical interest, the map survives linen-backed with fold lines and age-toning, but complete and visually commanding.

https://www.antiquemapsandprints.com/fr/collections/lands-premises-belonging-to-the-river-dee-company.oembed
