Roads and railways stand out against shaded relief at 1:500,000, so the passes, the Ebro and the coast roads can be followed in detail. Published in Paris by Blondel la Rougery, it was dissected into thirty-six panels, mounted on linen and sold in London by Sifton, Praed & Co. of 67 St James’s Street, whose covers it keeps, stamped ‘Dartington Hall’. The Palma–Santanyí railway, completed in 1917, is shown open, while the route through Ribes towards Puigcerdà is still under construction; the line reached Ribes in 1919. Together these favour a 1917–19 railway state and the approximate date of 1918. A handsome and practical early twentieth-century touring map.
