The Rhine, Mosel, Saar, Ruwer, Ahr, Main and Neckar organise a landscape of wine-growing districts, with grape decoration reinforcing the theme around the border. Geographic names and small illustrations work together, offering both a regional overview and an inviting piece of wine-related design. Undated, it is provisionally assigned to c.1971: its cork-and-corkscrew motif and accompanying slogan were in promotional use by early 1971. It was probably issued for the national German wine promotional campaign associated with Deutsche Weininformation, Mainz. Its illustrator and publisher remain unidentified. Its appeal is the concentration on the traditional western wine regions, presented through a lively graphic language suited to a cellar, dining room or wine collection.
