The house, at 17 Gough Square, is shown but not named on the sheet, and it has been a museum since 1914. Around New Street Square, the sheet shows bookbinding, paper storage and printing premises, revealing the support trades behind Fleet Street's newspapers. The square was rebuilt in 2008 and now holds professional-service offices, including Deloitte, with print manufacture replaced by office-based employment. In the sheet's day, Extel House housed the Exchange Telegraph news agency, which was founded in 1872. The sheet also names the Central London Institute, Newspaper House, Pemberton House, the Crane offices and Gough House. These working plans were compiled for property and fire-risk assessment, and they carried pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. The latest dated correction on this sheet is a large vacancy label of September 1969 in Crane Court. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in February 1952, with a 1952 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with the group were corrected as late as October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Fetter Lane, New Fetter Lane, Great New Street, East Harding Street, West Harding Street and Pemberton Row.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001202a_34478fd6-b873-4587-a00b-64ee000da1bb.jpg?v=1792149226
goad-london-38-ec4-holborn-viaduct-evening-standard-st-andrew-1956-1969-map-p-9-001206
Goad London 38—EC4—Holborn Viaduct—Evening Standard—St Andrew 1956 (1969) map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 38 [Holborn Viaduct, Shoe Lane, St Andrew Holborn and the Evening Standard printing works]

Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 38, covers Holborn Viaduct and Shoe Lane (EC4), where the Evening Standard printing works, foundry, machine rooms and paper stores then stood beside the Fleet Telephone Exchange. All of this has given way to the Plumtree Court development, which opened as Goldman Sachs' European headquarters in 2019. The exchange's Dorothy Annan murals of 1960 went to the Barbican in 2013, and the Standard stopped daily printing in 2024. St Andrew Holborn, which was gutted in 1941 and rebuilt to Wren's design, remains a guild church. The sheet also names the Daily Mirror newspaper offices at Holborn Circus, Thavies Inn, the Holborn Viaduct vaults and the Prince Albert statue. Goad's working plans were made for property and fire-risk assessment, and they carried pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. The latest dated correction on this sheet is a September 1969 vacancy annotation south of Holborn Viaduct. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in February 1956, with a 1956 copyright date, and it belongs to a group whose key plans were still being corrected in October 1970 and March 1971.
